Case Studies
The Gaelic Books Council
The Gaelic Books Council, a charitable organisation set up in 1968 to promote Gaelic literature, approached the West Port Agency for guidance in branding their various initiatives. WPA Creative Director Will Brady produced a selection of identity prototypes, and worked closely with the client in developing these into comprehensive brand guidelines. These were then implemented across all publicity materials – including t-shirts, flyers, and a new web presence – to showcase the professionalism, creativity and commitment of the Gaelic Books Council.
Hannah was asked to compile a consultancy document regarding a possible GBC project [confidential].
Edinburgh Books
Formerly known as West Port Books, Edinburgh Books was taken over three years ago by William Lytle, who quickly began to promote the shop as an off-beat enclave where customers could be assured of finding an interesting book.
The WPA has assisted William in marketing the shop through social media, as well as by designing and building a new website. It was important that the shop’s new name was promoted, as well as its unique selling point – its ‘personality.’ WPA Creative Director, Will Brady, used the existing logo and title font to create a beautiful, personality-driven website, integrating a variety of social networking features including a live twitter feed and blog, as well as striking, classical photography.
The Edinburgh Books website is designed to appeal to younger customers, as well as to more mature clients who appreciate the clean layout and ease-of-use.
Most Entertaining
Most Entertaining is a music consultancy with a diverse business model that includes music lessons as well as live gigs. WPA was asked to interrogate their existing brand and after several consultations, determined that the company would benefit from a more focused and coherent market strategy.
WPA was commissioned to create a postcard campaign that promoted piano lessons, music workshops and ‘total music tuition,’ a concept unique to Most Entertaining. The West Port Agency produced a punchy and artistic new identity, complemented by old-school photos with humorous captions. WPA ensured that the brand identity was clear, consistent and memorable, even though the postcards themselves advertised quite different services.
WPA continues to work with Most Entertaining on a new website.
West Port Book Festival
Hannah Adcock and Peggy Hughes founded the West Port Book Festival in 2008 and have worked closely with Will Brady to create a brand identity that is eye-catching, fun and a little bit literary.
The West Port Book Festival brand has been much admired by other professionals, as well as by audience members, and its success has been instrumental in inspiring Hannah and Will to found the West Port Agency.
